I am currently going through a very difficult time in my life and I have been asking God in prayer to come into the scene but It didn’t seem like God answered my prayer because the situation didn’t get any better. But I kept hearing in my spirit- “looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith” Heb 12:2. The depth of this powerful verse didn’t register immediately…I kept saying to myself…”oh yes, I have looked up to Jesus, but my situation is still the same”…
So about two days ago, I felt the urge in my spirit to take a more indepth look into the life of Jesus. I took my bible study book and my biro and began to study from the Gospel of Matthew…Then, I realized my prayer had been answered the moment I prayed it, I just didn’t realize it.
The way Jesus was portrayed,he was born human. His mother carried him for 9months like you and I. He grew up like you and I. Jesus came as human to show us the template of how we should live our lives. If he just appeared in Nazareth all grown(in a supernatural way) and he started performing miracles…Many would have argued that we cannot compare our lives with that of Jesus.
“For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities, but was in all points tempted like as we are yet without sin” Heb 4:15
This tells us that Jesus is touched by our sufferings. Jesus christ is able to sympathize with us because he knows what it means to suffer. He suffered pain, rejection, hatred, mockery, abandonent, loss of friends, temptation, exhaustation….Whatever you are going through, it is safe to say Jesus must have gone through much more. Lets take a look at few scenarios.
The Birth OF Jesus
When Mary and Joseph arrived in Bethelem, there was no room for them at the inn, they had no choice than to lodge in a cave where animals were staying. When Jesus was born, he was laid in a manger.
LIGHT BULB:💥💥 Jesus made his appearance on earth in the lowliest of circumstances.
In Samaria, he came to a town named Sychar, which was not far from the field that Jacob had given his son Joseph. Jacob’s well was there and Jesus tired out by the journey, sat down by the well”- John 4-5:7
LIGHT BULB: 💥💥 Jesus got tired, he rested at the well of samaria because he was physically tired and thirsty….Understanding this now, I was like Wowza! You mean Jesus can be physically tired and thirsty😲😲👩🏿🔧…Oh yes! Hungry even
Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”
Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” Matthew 4:1-4
LIGHT BULB:💥💥 Jesus was tempted the same way Satan tempts us today by manipulating our thoughts and presenting doubts in us to the word of God. Jesus was tempted in like manners.
And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.Matthew 26:39
LIGHT BULB:💥💥 The last hours of Jesus on earth, he was accused, mocked, spat on and slapped in the face. He suffered a brutal beating before his crucifixion, his friends deserted him. He had a crown of thorns thrust into his scalp. As I write this, I tried to imagine the pain he must have gone through,I particularly imagined a nail being driven into his palm and feet and I quickly held my palm in a fist and hid it away…The pain Jesus went through is unimaginable. He had moments when it was just too much, but it was all about God’s will, not his hurt, pain or feelings.
He was subjected to all kinds of trials that we are subjected to and he is able to sympathize with us and help us in our trials.
Having realized this, let us come boldly before the throne of grace, there will we find mercy and grace needed to endure and overcome whatever we are going through.
When unexpected turn of events overtake us, remember this and look up to Jesus. Be encouraged and persevere. It is for a greater cause.
Having realized that whatever I am going through is for a greater purpose. I have learned to rest in the lord in the sufferings and the pain and also to look up to Jesus, the author and finisher of my faith.
