Let me start by saying that, the person I am now is not the person I used to be, for the past years of my life, I dealt with very low self- confidence and self-esteem. This had quite a great effect on my life and my relationship with people. I started my self- improvement journey when I got tired of the life I was living and I desperately wanted to be better. If I tell you that I have come to that place where I’m 100% confident, I’d be lieing. But I am definitely not where I used to be a year ago. CONFIDENCE IS NOT A TALENT, IT’S A SKILL YOU CAN ACQUIRE. Today I am a better version of myself and I continue to improve daily. Below are 4 tips from my personal experience that can help you to build self-confidence.Enjoy!
1. Make a list
Make a list of all the situation that makes you uncomfortable, investigate your source of lowered confidence. In my list was my teeth…Growing up, my mum gave us a rule,”If you do not brush your teeth, no food for you”, being the type that likes food…I will rush the whole process of brushing and run to mama shouting,”See, I have brushed my teeth..can I have my food now”. Over time my teeth became a complete mess..My lower teeth was filled with a destructive substance called Tartar that forms along the gum line. I found it very difficult to talk in public or even smile. Making a list falls under two categories..
1. If you can do something about it, please do
2. If you can’t, learn to accept it.Shikena?
So, I googled and found out that, Scaling and polishing could fix it. At first, I thought it will cost me a fortune.(If you don’t ask, you will never know)So I took baby steps, I went to the university college hospital(The Dental department), made equiries and I was made to know that I needed less than 15k for the procedure, that was my very first step to freedom..I went through the process and Kpam! my teeth was fixed…Although I do not have a white teeth but I do not have one filled with tartar. *Secret* ooo…promise not to tell anyone…That is why I smile alot na…Even on Whatsapp???
2. Practice Eye Contact
I was discussing with a friend and brother one day and he noticed that I avoided eye cotact and he said,”Tope, you have to learn how to look into people’s eyes, otherwise you will be taken advantage of most of the time”. This advice is one of the best advice anyone had ever given to me. This tip is one hell of a confidence booster. When you are conversing with anyone, look straight into their eyes and make it a habit not to be the one who breaks the eye contact. At first, it will seem impossible…it’s normal, try the second time, the third time, the fourth time and by the fifth time..You would become a pro…Try it and thank me later??
3. Empower yourself
Seen that video clip where a man said,”The government should do empowerment of us”? Do not wait for the government, Empower yourself.Take up some space in the world. Be known for something. Learn a skill. Mine is blogging and make up…Ever since I learnt that make up ehn, my confidence level yaf multiply by 1000.Not saying I am not confident without make up oo, but knowing that I can beat my face pefectly well sure gives me some sort of confidence booster..
4. Invest in yourself
Invest in yourself. Invest in books(self-help books). lack of confidence sometimes stem from inadequate knowledge. Knowledge creates confidence. Invest in good clothes. Invest! Invest!! Invest!!!. Constantly do things to improve yourself. Self improvement is key. Invest in things that can add value to your life. You can also download- MEDIUM AND QUORA APP…THESE APPS CONTAIN TONS OF GREAT CONTENT THAT YOU CAN LEARN A GREAT DEAL FROM.
CONFIDENCE IS A JOURNEY NOT A DESTINATION. IT IS NOT SOMETHING THAT YOU ACQUIRE AND NEVER LOSE, IT CAN BE LIKENED TO A SKILL ONCE YOU STOP PRACTICING ANY SKILL…YOU FORGET IT. YOU HAVE TO KEEP AT IT EVERY SINGLE DAY.
CONFIDENCE DOES NOT BUILD OVER-NIGHT, IT IS A PROCESS…
